Project Update: Spokane Shadle Library June Update

By June 15, 2021 No Comments

Project Overview:

The Shadle Branch Library project (Spokane, WA) includes renovation of and addition to the existing Library. There are also related site improvements within the boundaries of the lot for access to the expanded library and the rest of Shadle Park. At 17,800 square feet, the Shadle Library (2111 W. Wellesley Ave.) was undersized for its role as a destination library for the north side of Spokane. The Shadle Library will expand to approximately 30,000 square feet to meet the level of demand for additional and modern library spaces and services. The original building will be preserved and will include new interior spaces including meetings rooms and maker spaces. An expansion toward the intersection of Wellesley and Belt will increase the presence of Shadle Library along the Wellesley thoroughfare.

The updated library will include:

  • Expansion of the current location to 30,000 square feet
  • Improved children’s discovery areas to impact children’s literacy outcomes
  • Improved areas for quiet reading and study
  • Flexible use spaces for large or small meetings

Anticipated Completion:

End of June 2021

Current Status:

The project team is focusing on project closeout and punch list work as this project gets closer to completion. Right now they are adding material to the roof that was on back order due to COVID-related supply issues, finishing the electrical work, cleaning windows, installing the front doors and the playground will be up soon too.
