The fast paced construction of the new Salk Middle School replaced the aging 1961 facility. The new facility is a 97,000 SF, two-story structure attached to the recently completed gymnasium. The new facility is bright, open, and lavish with updated electrical, safety, communication, and audio/video systems. The new classrooms are clean, quiet, have higher ceilings, great lighting, excellent audio/video systems, new furniture, and provide the opportunity for great expanses in curriculum. Along with new classrooms there is now a large centralized commons space which serves as both a cafeteria or as an optional assembly space. Also of note are the new kitchen, elevator, library, band and choir rooms, art room, science rooms, and administrative suite spaces. Each of these spaces is uniquely tailored to provide maximum efficiency as well as opportunity. The project also included selective demolition to the existing structure, sitework including the replacement of the softball and baseball fields, vehicular and pedestrian circulation and paving with the installation of 115 new parking stalls.
