This contract provided structural modifications and deck replacement for the Don Kardong Bridge, a former railroad bridge that carries pedestrian and bicyclists on the Centennial Trail over the Spokane River near Gonzaga University. The project included removal of the existing bridge decking, guardrail, triangle shade structures, paved approaches, electrical equipment and selective abatement of hazardous materials. New features included structural steel leveling beams, overlook framing, and crossframe modifications, precast concrete bridge deck and overlooks, steel guardrails, electrical service and illumination, grading and paving of the bridge approaches, and other related miscellaneous work. Garco performed all of the work from the existing bridge, eliminating in-water access expenses and associated environmental concerns.
