Get to Know Garco: Meet the Team Monday September Featured Team

DAVE GRAYBEAL – SUPERINTENDENT

Dave’s currently working on the Ballou Junior High project for the Puyallup School District. He’s been with Garco for 12 years. Dave says, “My perfect job description when I was in college included working with people, working in a hands-on situation and being creative to produce something.” The roll that Dave has with Garco gives him all that and so much more. He notes, “It is very satisfying to walk into an empty field or site, and then walk away from a beautiful building months later.” In his free time, Dave likes working with wood. His latest pursuit includes making things out of wine barrels! Dave and his wife love to travel. He says, “We would like to visit Europe again, and some day make it down under to Australia and New Zealand.” He also loves to ride his touring mo

torcycle, especially to some of the national parks nearby, or through the biggest mountains around. Dave shares, “There is nothing like riding around a corner with the wind in your face and seeing Mt. Rainier take up the entire view … Priceless!”

KATHLENE JOHNSON – PROJECT ENGINEER

Kathlene works in the Spokane Office and has been with Garco for 14 years. Kathlene says, “When I came to Garco 14 years ago, I felt like I hadn’t had a home in many years. After working just a few short months I knew I had found my home. I started in the field as a project administrator and worked my way up to project engineer. I love being out on the job sites watching a project from start to finish, watching people grow with new knowledge and sharing their knowledge with others.” She likes that on many projects she was able to get in and get her hands dirty too. She adds, “I like working alongside our crews. I love how Garco is a family.”

Originally from Montana, Kathlene enjoys returning their to visit her parents in her free time. She also has an amazing son that brings joy to her every day. When she’s not at work she also spends time with her dog Zephyr. Kathlene says, “I have a full woodshop in my garage where I create different things, mostly messes. I also enjoy riding my Harley, doing yard work, remodeling things on my house, and relaxing with friends and family.”

HEIDI HELBERG – AP MANAGER

Heidi’s been with Garco for six years and works out of the Spokane office. Fun fact, Heidi started at Garco the week her first grandchild was born! Heidi shares, “I love Garco’s family-orientated atmosphere and how the company is active in supporting our local community.” When she’s not at work Heidi loves spoiling her grandkids and spending time with family. She also likes to have quiet time alone out on her kayak or Razor scooter. Heidi says, “I enjoy being outdoors, especially at the beach.”

MATT BICHLER – PROJECT ENGINEER

Matt’s been with Garco for 6 years and most recently has worked at the Wilson Elementary project. Matt says, “Being able to work on-site with our field crews and seeing the project progress from start to finish is one of my favorite parts of the job. We have great people at Garco and are fortunate to also work with great subcontractors and suppliers; getting to know everyone from project to project has been an awesome experience.” Matt graduated from Eastern Washington University with a degree in Construction Management and started with Garco right after graduating. His project focus has been on education projects including Wilson Elementary, Franklin Elementary, Pullman High School and WSU PETB building. Outside of work, Matt enjoys snowmobiling, hanging out at Priest Lake or working on a remodel project at home.
