Garco Intern Insider with Hunter Fuchs

By July 14, 2020 No Comments

What’s it like being an intern at Garco? Well, we’re going to show you! We’ve started interviewing our interns to find out what the experience is like for them and what they are learning about the industry and Garco that will help them as they move forward with their careers.

Meet Hunter Fuchs. He’s been interning with Garco for over two years now and will continue to do so through his last quarter of college this fall. When he started his internship he worked on the Pavilion at the Park and Howard Street Promenade project (Riverfront Park). Once that completed he spent some time out at the Ridgeline High School project and is now working out at the Mead Market Street Complex. Hunter has been gaining experience and knowledge marking up drawings, writing RFIs, submittals, O&Ms/warranties, as-builts, weekly safety reports, weekly progress pictures, punch lists, and takeoffs for bids.

Hunter has been around the construction industry all his life and that prompted his interest in pursuing a career in it as well. He shares, “My father has a construction company that I grew up working for. I have ran equipment, put in septic tanks, waterlines, developed home sites, remodeled homes, place concrete for slabs, and much

more.” The key factors that have influenced his interest are, “Being able to see your accomplishments physically really has influenced me, along with being able to go back to something you built years ago.”

His internship at Garco has offered valuable insight for him. Hunter says, “Before my internship at Garco, I didn’t know about all of the different career paths you can take in construction. There are so many opportunities in the construction industry.” His favorite experience thus far has been finish the Pavilion at the Park and seeing it open to the public to enjoy it.

For other students considering a career path in the A/E/C industry, Hunter offers the following advice, “Don’t be overwhelmed by the size of the project and everything you need to know. Take everything one step at a time.”

We are glad you got to gain this experience with the Garco team Hunter!
